Steffi Scherzer – Artistic Director of Zurich Dance Academy, taZ
After training at the State Ballet School Berlin for seven years, Steffi Scherzer joined the German State Opera Berlin, where she was appointed Prima Ballerina in 1984. Steffi danced the leading parts and title roles of the entire classical and neoclassical repertoire. She won numerous major prizes and awards at both national and international ballet competitions, such as the bronze medal at the International Ballet Competition in Varna and the Individual Excellent Performance Price in Osaka as well as two first prices at National Competitions.
She received many acclaimed performing arts and critics’ awards for her outstanding performances and interpretations, among others in “Swan Lake” and “Giselle”. Steffi made guest appearances around the world, and worked with many of the most renowned choreographers such as Rudolf Nurejev, Patrice Bart, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Pierre Lacotte, Roland Petit, Uwe Scholz, Laszlo Seregi, Youri Vamos and Tom Schilling.
She is an honorary member of the German State Opera Berlin and one of Germany’s most outstanding classical dancers. Since 2004 she has been working in leading positions at Zurich Dance Academy, the professional Ballet School of Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland.
She also acts very successfully as teacher for Classical Dance, Pointe Work and Classical Repertoire at Zurich Dance Academy. Mrs Scherzer’s students achieved top places and won many prizes at national and international competitions. Her international activities also include the service as jury member at international ballet competitions around the globe.
